In
private practice for over 20 years in Michigan and
Arizona as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, Nancy
Heinonen is currently completing her Internship hours at
the newly formed ACCPT.G (The Arizona Community Clinical
Psychology Training Group) Internship with Southwest
Leadership Foundation. Her doctoral work is at the
California School of Professional Psychology in San
Diego, California (currently Alliant International
University). Her dissertation dealt with biculturalism,
coping strategies and American Indian Graduate
Students. Nancy served as a consultant to residents at
Phoenix Baptist Hospital on cultural and psychological
issues. A 1982 graduate from the University of Michigan
in Educational Psychology, Nancy moved to Arizona in
1986 and continued practicing both in a large group
practice and in private practice. Her current practice
focuses on work with individuals and couples, groups,
and supervising master,s level counselors.
Nancy
believes her early training and research involvement in
Infant Psychopathology and Attachment Disorders provides
her with a critical base for further training and
interest in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy. She served as
a consultant and therapist at a residential treatment
center for adolescent girls, which proves to be valuable
in her current work with disenfranchised adolescent
girls. Current areas of interest include, recent
developments from brain research on psychotherapy and
new perspectives from Contemporary Self Psychology.
Nancy is a member of the American Psychoanalytic
Association, the Arizona Psychological Association, The
International Association for Psychoanalytic Self
Psychology and the American Counseling Association.
