David Blackstone, LCSW, is a
psychoanalytic psychotherapist currently in
private practice in Phoenix. He treats children,
adolescents, and adults in
individual, couple, and family psychotherapy. Mr.
Blackstone's approach to treatment integrates various
schools of psychoanalytic thought, including
ego psychology, contemporary relational psychoanalysis
and intersubjectivity.
His belief that all humans struggle both consciously and
unconsciously
with existential issues such as death, isolation, and
loss, and his belief
that these issues are directly related to
psychopathology in many patients,
strongly influences his treatment approach. Mr.
Blackstone's background is in outpatient community
mental health as well as adolescent residential
treatment. He received his MSW degree from Loyola
University of Chicago and practiced in Illinois prior to
moving to Phoenix 5 years ago to begin his private
practice. Current research interests include attachment
as well as the currently burgeoning field of study that
integrates developmental
psychology, affect regulation, and cognitive
neuroscience.
