Jonathan Masters, Psy. D.
|
Dr. Masters is a
licensed clinical psychologist with experience in
private practice, community mental health, and
residential treatment settings. He earned his bachelors
and masters degrees in psychology, and obtained his
doctorate in clinical psychology from Pepperdine
University. His dissertation focused on cognitive psychology in the area of
decision-making and diagnosis with DSM-IV. Additional
areas of interest include dissociation, neuroscience,
attachment theory, complexity theory, and the
integration of current research with contemporary
psychoanalysis.
Currently, he is a
senior candidate in psychoanalysis at the Institute of
Contemporary Psychoanalysis,
Los Angeles, working towards a doctoral degree. His
service for the Southwest Psychoanalytic Society
includes membership on the Board of Directors,
Treasurer, and participation on various committees for
that organization. He is a member of the American
Psychological Association. His professional
biography/resume is included in Marquis Who's Who in
America, 2007. Earlier in his professional career he was
a lecturer in astronomy at the Vanderbilt Planetarium in
Long Island, New York. He also pursued an interest in
Jazz music, graduating from the Guitar Institute of
Technology in Los Angeles. He has a strong interest in
the arts.
Dr. Masters was
initially trained in behavioral psychology, and worked
professionally as a Behavioral Specialist and consultant
for the Regional
Center system of Southern
California. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at
the Pederson-Kraig
Center in New York where he began
supervision and training with psychoanalysts to develop
a broader perspective in his clinical work. This led to
his current studies in formal psychoanalytic training at
the Institute of
Contemporary Psychoanalysis.
Currently, Dr.
Masters works in a full-time private practice,
emphasizing insight oriented and experientially based
psychodynamic psychotherapy. He also practices adult
psychoanalysis in conjunction with his training at the
ICP. In addition to working with adults, he has
specialties in working with children and adolescents
utilizing play therapy, solution-focused, behavioral,
and psychoanalytic approaches. He conducts psychotherapy
with children, adolescents, adults, families, and
couples. He works with a wide range of clinical
disorders and problems, and is available for
consultation and supervision.
